- Morning Departure: 8 Am, Our adventure begins in Semera Airport, the gateway to the Danakil Depression. After a briefing and meet-and-greet with your experienced guide and driver, we’ll depart around 10:00 AM.
- A Journey Through Alien Landscapes: Embark on a scenic yet rugged drive towards campsite of Erta Ale via Lake Afdera, the official entrance to the Danakil Depression. Prepare to be captivated by the otherworldly scenery, featuring volcanic rock formations and stark beauty.
- Afternoon: head to the Salt Lake of Afdera. Experience the unique landscape of the Salt Lake, where traditional salt mining methods are still practiced by the Afar people.
- Conquering Erta Ale:In the afternoon, we’ll commence our trek to the summit of Erta Ale, one of the most active volcanoes in World. we’ll embark on a 20–30-minute trek each way to the volcano’s rim, will reward you with breathtaking vistas. Our Guides will remain nearby to ensure your safety while you explore the volcano’s rim.
- Witnessing the Fiery Heart: As night falls, set your gaze upon Erta Ale’s spectacular lava lake, a mesmerizing display of nature’s raw power. Enjoy a delicious dinner and camp overnight under a blanket of stars, surrounded by the volcano’s otherworldly glow, horentos buzzing.
- Sunrise Spectacle:Awaken to a magical sunrise, painting the volcanic landscape in vibrant hues of orange and red. Savor this unforgettable experience before driving to Dallol.
- Camel Caravans & Cultural Encounters:After breakfast, we’ll travel to Hamd Ela, where you’ll witness the traditional camel caravans, a vital part of Afar culture, transporting salt mined from the region. Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of the Afar people.
- Tranquility at Lake Assal:As the day progresses, we’ll set up camp near the shores of Lake Assal, one of the lowest point in world. Capture the captivating sunset as it casts a golden glow over the vast salt lake.
- Breakfast by Lake Asle:At the crack of dawn, at 5 AM, we’ll embark on a short drive to the otherworldly landscapes of Dallol. As the sun begins to rise, we’ll witness a breathtaking sunrise that illuminates the colorful sulfur lakes and mineral formations.
- Dallol’s Multicolored Marvels:After breakfast, Prepare to be astounded by the surreal landscapes of Dallol. This volcanic spectacle features an array of vibrant colors, creating a terrain that seems to belong on another planet. Explore the unique geological formations and capture stunning photographs of this extraordinary place.
- Salt of the Earth: Our journey continues towards Ragad, where you’ll witness Afar salt miners extracting salt using traditional methods. Observe the age-old techniques of carving salt slabs and learn about the significance of this trade route.
- Farewell to the Danakil:After a final glimpse of Dallol’s wonders, we’ll comfortably return to Mekele Airport, bringing our unforgettable Danakil Depression adventure to a close.
