Morning: Fly to Semera and embark on a thrilling journey to the Dallol Depression, the lowest point on Earth. Our journey will take us through the small town of Berhale, marking the entrance to this otherworldly depression.
Afternoon: Immerse yourself in the surreal beauty of Dallol, with its otherworldly landscapes of vibrant colors and otherworldly formations. Dallol, a testament to Earth’s dynamic geological forces, is a mesmerizing landscape shaped by volcanic activity. Plus, witness the otherworldly salt formations, the hot springs, and the unique geological formations.
Evening: Camp at Hamede Ela, a remote desert outpost, and as the sun begins to set, we’ll venture to Lake Karum, where we’ll witness a breathtaking sunset reflected on the vast expanse of salt flats of Danakil Depression. Interact with the Afar people, the resilient inhabitants of this harsh environment.
- Morning: Embark on a challenging trek to Erta Ale volcano, one of the few places on Earth with a permanent lava lake.
- Afternoon: Reach the summit and witness the mesmerizing spectacle of molten lava bubbling and flowing. The intense heat and the surreal beauty of the lava lake create an unforgettable experience.
- Evening: Camp at a base camp near Erta Ale, and spend the night under the starlit sky, surrounded by the volcano’s otherworldly glow.
- Morning: Descend from Erta Ale and head to the Salt Lake of Afdera.
- Afternoon: Experience the unique landscape of the Salt Lake, where traditional salt mining methods are still practiced by the Afar people. Take a refreshing swim in the salt-rich waters, followed by a drive back to Semera.
- Evening: Fly back to Addis Ababa and enjoy a farewell dinner, savoring the flavors of Ethiopian cuisine and reflecting on your extraordinary adventure.
