St. George Church
One of the largest churches in Bahir Dar, located right next to the water, is a notable landmark. However, it pales in comparison to the stunning monasteries of Lake Tana. The impressive gateway on the northern side of Georgis Square leads to a rather underwhelming church and a sizable complex of buildings.
A particularly interesting feature is a two-story tower dating back to the 16th or 17th century, likely the oldest structure in the city. The church itself is of a much later period.
Visitors can also explore the small castle-like home of Pedro Páez, a Spanish Jesuit missionary who lived in Ethiopia during the 16th century.
