Cascade of Beauty: Jinbar Waterfall

The Jinbar Waterfall is a breathtaking natural wonder located in the Simien Mountains National Park, Ethiopia.

Found deep within the dramatic Geech Abyss of the Simien Mountains, Jinbar Falls is a breathtaking spectacle of nature’s power. This narrow, canyon-like abyss, plunging up to 800 meters into the earth, provides a dramatic backdrop for this magnificent waterfall.

Fed by the Jinbar River, which flows for nine kilometers across the unique alpine grassland of the Simien Plateau, the falls cascade down the steep canyon walls. While the exact height of the falls is difficult to determine, it’s estimated to be well over 500 meters, making it one of the highest waterfalls in Africa.

The water plummets down the cliff face, transforming into a misty spray as it reaches the halfway point. The falls aren’t a single, continuous drop; rather, the water is broken into multiple cascades as it encounters the vertical cliff face, particularly when driven by the wind. At the base of the falls, a smaller cascade completes the awe-inspiring display.

Even during the dry season, a steady flow of water maintains the falls’ beauty. However, during the rainy season, the falls truly come alive, with a dramatic increase in water volume and a mesmerizing display of power and grace.
