Banna Tribe
The Banna Tribe:
A Circular Community
Unique Housing Structures
Banna communities are characterized by their circular arrangement of family homes around a central livestock enclosure. The huts are constructed using flexible poles, covered with straw and fabric mats, creating a dome-shaped structure.
Traditional Beliefs and Ceremonies
The Banna people adhere to their ancient religion, believing that natural objects, such as trees and rocks, are inhabited by spirits. They perform various ceremonies based on these beliefs.
Cultural Significance of Appearance
Clothing, hairstyles, and body modifications are essential aspects of Banna culture. Men use clay to color and style their hair, adorning it with feathers, flowers, and beads. Women’s hairstyles vary depending on marital status. Before marriage, girls have short, uncolored hair. After marriage, their hair is lengthened, braided, and colored with red clay.
